3 Reasons to Celebrate Small Business Week

(and 3 Places to Do It!)

It's National Small Business Week, and we'll shout it! (Frankly, we're surprised so few people are!)

The U.S. Small Business Administration began celebrating National Small Business Week more than 50 years ago. The celebration recognizes the critical contributions America's entrepreneurs and small business owners make to their communities and beyond.

What's the big deal?

In a nutshell: What’s good locally is good nationally. (And amidst another quarter-point U.S. interest rate hike yesterday, supporting local businesses is especially important!)

Here’s a deeper look at the benefits of shopping small:

  • Support the local economy: When you purchase goods or services from a local provider, the money you spend in town stays in town. In turn, you help create jobs and stimulate the local economy, which allows your local business owners to continue to innovate and enhance their offerings. It's a win-win!

  • Discover unique and personalized products: Small businesses often carry goods you can't find at big box stores, like local honey (to help fight allergies!) or grandma's special recipe (to ward off those hunger pains!). Plus, many small business owners are willing to accommodate special requests or customizations, which is especially helpful during the gifting season. How thoughtful!

  • Be dazzled by caring customer service: Small business owners are often extra passionate about their products and partnerships. As a result, they're more likely to also take pride in offering excellent customer service—and have the additional expertise to boot! After all, they know that a pleasant experience might turn a one-time customer into a repeat customer—or even a referral—which not only makes the customer happy but also the business. And, you know that happy local businesses produce happy local economies!

That's why this Small Business Week, we're celebrating a few of our beloved local gems and whipping up the perfect prescription for their uses.
